How to specify a kitchen faucet
A kitchen faucet works harder than any other tap in the home. It is cycled more often, exposed to higher temperatures, and subject to heavier contact with oil, acid, and abrasive cleaners. A specification method that works in the bathroom does not automatically transfer.
Spout reach and height
Measure the sink first. A spout that is too short splashes; a spout that is too tall splashes harder. For a double-bowl sink, the spout reach should allow the aerator to sit over the centre of either bowl without strain on the swivel mechanism.
Aerator and flow
A well-specified kitchen faucet runs 6–8 L/min at standard pressure. Lower rated aerators save water but extend fill times for pots and kettles, which is the first thing a user notices.
Pull-out vs fixed
A pull-out spray is a maintenance item. It is the correct choice in a family kitchen and an overspecification in a secondary kitchen or utility room where a fixed spout lasts longer without servicing.
Cartridge and body
Ceramic cartridge, brass body, PVD or chrome finish. The same baseline as our bathroom range, and for the same reasons.
