How to specify a basin faucet
The basin mixer is the most visible faucet in a bathroom and the most often specified on appearance alone. This article lists the three measurements that decide whether it also works.
Basin depth and spout projection
The aerator should discharge into the middle of the basin bowl, not near the rim and not near the overflow. Vessel basins need a taller fixture; countertop basins need a longer projection. Measure the basin before choosing the mixer.
Cartridge
Ceramic cartridge, correctly seated. Every mixer in our range uses a named cartridge with published service data.
Finish
The finish has to survive the cleaning chemistry of the room it sits in. For hotel and contract, default to PVD or chrome. For a residential owner-occupied bathroom with controlled cleaning, electroplated brass and nickel finishes are acceptable and have a softer visual character.
Coordination
A basin mixer specified in the same finish family as the shower and accessory line will age at the same rate as the rest of the room, which is the point of specifying a single manufacturer.
